Black Moses At the River

Black Moses At the River

For those of you who've followed me thus far,
Through Dismal Swamp and Thorny Bush -- our tracks --
Still glitter 'neath the moonlight and North Star,
Undaunted by the hunters at our backs.
We've journey'd long to reach this river's mouth,
To gaze upon the fabled Promised Land,
And leave behind the horrors of the South --
But here my friends, we make one final stand.
For lo, the dust that rises o'er that hill,
The Texan rides to carry us away!
Take up the muskets, fight with all your will --
For death or freedom, we will meet today!
The very faith that brought us to this shore,
Tells me that we will not be slaves once more!
