She Gazed Into My Eyes

She Gazed Into My Eyes...

She gazed into my eyes and smiled at me,
As if in that one moment truly free.
She had in her expression ecstasy,
A calmness, manifest tranquility.
Was this fulfillment of a fantasy,
Or just a respite from reality?
Were it to last for all eternity,
Would it embody something heavenly?
Oh, as I pondered the divinity,
The realms twixt Heaven and humanity,
She spoke and broke that quaint serenity,
To whisper in my ear this pleasantry,
"I am more moved by your card's poetry
Than by the choc'lits, flowers [one syllable] or jewelry [three syllables]."
